Celebrating Community at Holy Cross Mercy Primary School

Here at Holy Cross Mercy, we believe in celebrating the moments that bring us together. Throughout the year, our school hosts a variety of events that reflect our values, kindness, creativity, inclusion, and community spirit. These special occasions help our pupils grow in confidence, build friendships, and create lasting memories.

Halloween Dress-Up for a Cause

Halloween is a highlight at The Mercy! Pupils and staff dress up in fun, spooky, and imaginative costumes, all while raising funds for the Kenya Education Project. It's a day full of laughter and colour, showing how creativity and compassion go hand in hand. Every costume worn helps support education in Kenya, making this tradition both meaningful and memorable.

Christmas Playschristmas play

Our Christmas Plays are a magical part of the festive season. This year, children from Second to Sixth Class will perform on 11th and 12th December, bringing joy to families with music, drama, and festive cheer. These performances help pupils build confidence and showcase their talents in front of a supportive audience.

Grandparents' Day

Grandparents' Day is one of the most cherished events at our school. We begin with a prayer service in the hall, followed by classroom visits where children proudly welcome their grandparents. The day ends with tea, treats, and warm conversations in the hall. It's a beautiful celebration of love, wisdom, and family connection.

Friendship Week

Held every February, Friendship Week is a time to focus on kindness, inclusion, and what it means to be a good friend. Pupils take part in stories, activities, and sing-alongs like "The More We Get Together." A special tradition is our school friendship bracelet, where each link represents a member of our community, a powerful symbol of unity and belonging.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge is a lively celebration of Irish language and culture. Pupils enjoy Irish dancing, music, reading, and PE as Gaeilge. The week ends with a traditional Irish music concert, just in time for St. Patrick's Day, showcasing the pride and talent of our school community.

World Book Day

World Book Day brings the magic of reading to life. Pupils and staff dress as their favourite book characters, explore new stories in the library, and take part in fun activities. The highlight is our Reading Buddy sessions, where older and younger pupils share books together, building friendships through storytelling.

Daffodil Daydaffodil day

On Daffodil Day, our school turns yellow in support of the Irish Cancer Society. Pupils and staff wear yellow, decorate classrooms, and take part in themed activities to raise awareness and funds. It's a hopeful, heartfelt day that reminds us of the power of community and giving.

Easter Bonnet Parade

Our Easter Bonnet Parade is bursting with colour and creativity. Pupils design and craft their own bonnets, then proudly parade them on our school catwalk. Sixth Class girls host the event as MCs, adding excitement and energy. It's a joyful celebration of spring, imagination, and school spirit.

These events are more than just dates on a calendar; they are opportunities for our children to grow, connect, and celebrate what makes Holy Cross Mercy Primary School such a special place. We are proud to share these moments with our families and wider community.
