Our Football Club provides pupils with a dynamic and supportive environment to learn and enjoy the game. Whether they’re just starting out or already playing with their local club, every child is encouraged to grow in confidence and ability.

Through engaging sessions, pupils develop key football skills such as catching, kicking, hand-passing, and teamwork. These activities also promote fitness, coordination, communication, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging through team play.

We are deeply grateful to the members of our staff who generously give their time and talents to support the Mercy Football team. Their commitment ensures our pupils are well-prepared, confident, and ready to represent the school in competitions throughout the year.

We are also proud to welcome Kerry School Development Officers Vince Cooper and Josh Coffey to our school throughout the year. They work closely with our 5th and 6th class pupils, delivering focused coaching sessions aimed at developing the skills of our future Kerry stars.

Basketball

Basketball is a high-energy sport that offers our pupils an exciting way to stay active while developing essential physical and social skills. Through regular training, children learn how to dribble, pass, shoot, defend, and move strategically on the court.

The game promotes spatial awareness, quick decision-making, and strong teamwork. It also encourages pupils to communicate effectively, support one another, and build confidence in a fast-paced, inclusive setting.

Our dedicated staff play a key role in coaching and mentoring the children, helping them refine their skills and deepen their understanding of the game. Thanks to their commitment, our school teams are well-prepared and proud to represent The Mercy in local and regional basketball competitions throughout the year.

Soccer

soccer

Soccer continues to be a popular and engaging activity at our school. Pupils enjoy taking part in friendly matches that help them develop a deeper understanding of teamwork, fair play, and match tactics, all while having fun and staying active.

The sport offers a fantastic opportunity to build friendships, boost confidence, and promote a healthy, active lifestyle both on and off the pitch.

Our dedicated staff play a vital role in coaching and preparing the Mercy Soccer Team for school competitions. Their commitment and encouragement ensure that our players are well-trained, motivated, and ready to compete. We are incredibly proud of the girls who represent our school with such skill, determination, and team spirit throughout the year.

Pitch & Putt

Our school’s Pitch and Putt team began three years ago and has grown in popularity ever since. Each year, a team of four girls from 5th and 6th Class proudly represent the school in the Tommy Galvin Shield, a local competition between Killarney area schools held in Deerpark Pitch and Putt Club.

Under the guidance of Mr Cronin, who has managed and coached the team since its inception, the girls participate in regular practice rounds to develop their skills and teamwork. A particular highlight came in 2024, when Lucy from 6th Class achieved a fantastic result by winning the Girls' Individual Prize. We look forward to many more great performances in the years ahead!
