Active Week
Active Week
Here in Holy Cross Mercy, Active Week is a special time dedicated to encouraging our children from Junior Infants to 6th class to engage in a variety of fun and active daily activities. This emphasises the importance of physical education, well-being, and fostering a love for movement and healthy lifestyles from an early age.
Children attend activities at St. Brigid’s Presentation Secondary School, St. Brendan’s College, Killarney, Killarney Valley Athletic Club, Deer Park Pitch and Putt, and other nearby locations to ensure they experience a variety of new activities. These excursions provide opportunities for children to develop new skills and enjoy activities that are not always available within the school setting. Each class also takes part in a fun walk during Active Week, giving us the chance to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings of the nearby Killarney National Park. With so many beautiful walks and outdoor facilities right on our doorstep, it’s the perfect way for children to connect with nature and develop their physical and environmental awareness.
The success of Active Week, especially Sports Day, is thanks to our dedicated Active Team. Their skills and talents in organising and coaching ensure every child has an exciting and memorable experience. Junior and Senior Infants and our Autism classes enjoy a day of fun activities here at school, while First to Sixth Class enjoy the excellent facilities at Killarney Valley Athletic Club.
Active Week promotes a healthy, active lifestyle, confidence, and adventure, all essential components of the holistic development of our children, made possible through the dedication of our staff and community.
