Lego & STEM Club
Lego & STEM Club
At Holy Cross Mercy, we are passionate about nurturing creativity, problem-solving, and technological skills through our vibrant LEGO and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) club. Our school provides a wide range of resources and specialised training to ensure every child enjoys an enriching experience that sparks a lifelong love of innovation and discovery.
Our LEGO-based activities include coding with LEGO sets and designing intricate LEGO Education STEM parks, allowing children to explore engineering concepts in a fun and engaging way. We also use Six Bricks, a versatile tool that promotes fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and collaborative learning. These activities are closely aligned with the new primary school curriculum, which places a strong emphasis on digital literacy and STEM education, areas where our school continues to lead with enthusiasm and expertise.
All classes take part in EU Coding Week, engaging in hands-on coding challenges and proudly showcasing their work on the EU Code Week map. This year, we were thrilled to receive a set of Bee-Bots and two educational posters from Oide in recognition of our school’s outstanding contribution to EU Code Week.
By integrating LEGO, coding, and STEM activities into our curriculum, we aim to inspire curiosity, foster teamwork, and develop essential 21st-century skills that will benefit our students well into the future. We are proud to be at the forefront of innovative learning, ensuring every child receives a rich, engaging, and forward-thinking education.
We are also delighted to share some exciting news: in June 2025, our school was awarded the prestigious Gold Award in the Curious Minds Awards, presented by Science Foundation Ireland. This award celebrates schools that demonstrate exceptional engagement and achievement in STEM education. Receiving the Gold Award is a testament to the dedication of our staff and students in cultivating curiosity, innovation, and a deep love of learning.
This recognition highlights the collective effort and commitment within our school community to promote STEM excellence. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to continuing our journey of inspiring curious minds and nurturing the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
