Today is a very special day in Holy Cross School as we celebrate Mercy Day and remember the life and work of Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy. Her values of kindness, compassion and caring for others remain at the heart of our school community, and Mercy Day gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our rich Mercy heritage together.
As part of today's celebrations, we will attend a special Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral at 1.10 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Seán Murphy, our new school chaplain. It will be a lovely occasion for pupils, parents, staff and the wider school community to come together in prayer and reflect on the Mercy values that guide us each day. Our school choir will play an important role in the celebration, leading the singing and helping to make the Mass a memorable occasion for all who attend.
This morning, pupils will also visit and deliver the cards they have prepared for the Sisters in the Mercy Convent. Great care has gone into creating colourful cards and writing thoughtful messages to thank the Sisters for all they have done for our school and community over the years.
Mercy Day is always a happy and memorable occasion in Holy Cross. It reminds us of our Mercy heritage and encourages us to follow Catherine McAuley's example by showing kindness and helping others. To make the day even more special, all pupils will receive a treat from our principal, Mrs Davern, which is always greatly appreciated and enjoyed by everyone.
We wish all our pupils, families, staff, past pupils and friends of Holy Cross a very Happy Mercy Day.
